Rolfing usually feels like slow, deep pressure followed by a feeling of release. Sensations range from very light and subtle contact, to strong sensation, or fairly intense. This depends on many factors, such as injuries or chronic stress to an area. First and foremost, the Rolfing process is a partnership that occurs between client and practitioner. Therefore, the practitioner works with each individual to determine his or her comfort level. If a client feels that the sensation in a specific area is too intense to work on directly, the Rolfer can easily access this area in a different way by getting creative with how and where they work. In this way the same amount of benefit is achieved, with less discomfort.
